How would you fix stuff before the 'net?

Just as Elliot and I were getting all set up to sit down and watch the Lost season 4 finale yesterday, my stereo spontaneously shut down, and refused to start up no matter what I tried. Thinking it was a fuse, I pulled the case apart and poked around inside with a multimeter. All the fuses were intact and everything looked ok to me, but there was still no response at all from the unit.

Consequently, I went to bed in a crap mood last night, more than ever convinced that the solution to life is just not to bother owning anything. Anyway this morning I thought I'd give it another shot, and found a magical solution on a random forum that fixed my problem:

  • Switch on power to the unit
  • Hold down the enter button and the advanced surround button on the front panel for a few seconds
  • The unit should reset itself and switch back on
  • Magic!
So there we go. At least now I'll still have decent sound to watch movies with till the end of the year!
