Tonight's our last night here in Mexico. It's sad that something that we've been looking forward to for so long is over now, but at the same time, for the last week we haven't even felt like we've been in Mexico at all. The whole Playa del Carmen/Cancun area just seems like the USA to us - it's full of fast food franchises, tacky souvenir shops, and English-speaking street hawkers. Not to mention all the spring-break college students here...
But we've loved our time in Mexico, and it's hard to leave. It feels like we've barely begun to explore the country, we've only seen such a little part of it. I'm not sure when we'll get to return here... it's probably not going to be for years at the least. I'm going to miss it so much though!
Tomorrow morning we head to Cancun airport, and if all our plans fall into place, we'll be flying at midday to Havana, Cuba. We're going to spend about two weeks there, with trips to a few smaller cities as well. I heard on the news this morning that the US might be lifting it's travel ban and trade ban with Cuba - and if that happens, we'll have just snuck in to see Cuba with it's character, before the influx of tourists from the USA turn it into another spring break destination...
Here's a bit of a summary of our time in Mexico - a map showing the travels we've made, and a collection of every photo we've taken here so far:
