... Oops. I have become a little behind with our blog posts! Does anyone still read this now? Please let us know to give us some more motivation to keep this up to date. We also keep our own personal diaries, so this here is solely for you guys back home :)
After recovering from non-stop travel in San Juan del Sur, we made our way through the slow border crossing at Peñas Blancas, Costa Rica. This is the most unorganised border we have seen, on both sides. We had to line up for hours in the hot sun waiting for a stupid stamp (or no stamp at all in the case at the Nicaraguan side). Some signs or guidance wouldn't have gone astray, but nevertheless, we stumbled our way across.
True to the Nicaraguan's word, Costa Rica is full of cops. Within ten minutes of departing the border we were stopped by the policia three times to show our passports.
With a night's break in Liberia (a little country town that we liked a lot), we continued on buses, ferries, and more buses to the coastal town of Montezuma.
Montezuma is located on the Pacific side of Costa Rica, on the Nicoya Peninsula. It is predominantly occupied by tourists, and has a strong hippie influence. Montezuma has the most stunning atmosphere, set in the jungle on the always-dramatic Pacific Ocean. I loved the way the thick, dense jungle met the deep, blue ocean waters.
In Montezuma we enjoyed meeting up with Andrew and Leeza, a couple we had met months ago in México. It was great reminiscing about the idyllic town of Troncones we had first all met in, and exploring the beaches around Montezuma. Whilst hanging out with them we realised that these are the first people that we have seen in 5 months that we know!
