Our pre-holiday Christmas break is nearly over (even though it's only just Christmas day today). In total I've now had 3 full Christmas dinners, which is about the limit anyone can handle!
We've spent the last two weeks up in Queensland on the coast with Maryanne's family. The first week was on the Sunshine coast, which was great because all of her brothers and sisters were there, along with all our little nephews. Lots of swimming at the beach, walks, and traipsing up and down the coast. My highlight was taking Pete's 4wd driving along the beach to a place called Rainbow beach.
Here's a video of Mez's brother Steve and I kayaking in the surf:
After that, we headed back down south to the Gold Coast. While the place we're staying here is really sweet, I definitely prefer the Sunshine Coast. Everyone seems more image conscious and upper class here. The hotel here has such a nice pool we haven't even bothered crossing the road to swim in the surf. That pretty much sums up my opinion of the Gold Coast.
We spent a day at Sea World, which was great fun, and was made really enjoyable because we got to see how excited Mez's nephew Jonah got on all the rides and shows. The highlight for me was the massive marine aquarium there, with thousands of fish and even full size sharks.
In the next few days we need to make our way back down to Sydney, then we fly out to Mexico on Monday. Still got a few things left to do before we're ready to leave, but we've basically finalized what we're taking, and I've been doing lots of last-minute Spanish study. Ironically, our trip feels further away now then it did when we were in Melbourne, when we were finishing up work and packing all our things away.
(There's lot's more photos online on our flickr page)
